2024 Holiday Gathering

Thank you to everyone who helped set up, break down and make our annual holiday gathering so festive. Thank you also to the bakers who entered our Second Annual Cookie Contest. By an overwhelming margin, our First Place (and trophy!) winner was Lucas S., a budding chef who–according to his Mom–practiced multiple times to get his cookies “just right”. He was so excited to have won on! Check out one of his practice videos below.

Chocolate Strawberry Swirl Cookies

Recipe by Lucas S.

Ingredients:
160 grams all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
90 grams freeze-dried strawberry powder
⅓ teaspoon salt
⅓ teaspoon baking powder
1 stick butter, softened
100 grams sugar
1 large egg
Splash of vanilla extract
⅓ bar of chocolate, melted

  1. Whisk the first four ingredients together
  2. Cream butter and sugar using a stand mixer or by hand until fluffy
  3. Add egg and vanilla to butter mixture, whisk until smooth
  4. Add flour mixture into butter mixture ½ cup at a time until cohesive dough forms (don’t over mix)
  5. Dust clean counter with flour, add dough, cut into 4-5 pieces, roll each into a 5-inch long log. Paint one side of the logs with chocolate then put all logs together into a larger log
  6. Cover log with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes or up to 3 days
  7. Preheat oven to 375F and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper
  8. Cut log into ½ inch slices and bake until it is not glossy on top anymore, 5-7 minutes. (DO NOT OVER BAKE!). Let cool for just a few minutes and serve.
