2018-19 Grant: Cherryhill Heritage

Our main goal with this project was to collect some of the oral and written history of the neighborhood through on-camera interviews, written submissions and physical documents (photos, maps, brochures, etc.). We wanted to highlight our neighborhood’s previous existence as a fruit orchard and how it has changed over the years. Cherryhill neighborhood is uniquely positioned to illustrate the shift from agriculture to high tech, which models the larger story of Silicon Valley. Please note that this is an ongoing project and your submissions are most welcome.

Take a peek at Cherryhill’s Heritage!

This video was created by a local high school student who is a fledgling videographer. Several long-time residents were interviewed and shared their recollections of the early days of Cherryhill Neighborhood (please note that some of the audio quality is shaky due to background noise during one of the interviews).

Original Brown & Kauffmann Brochure

Did you know our neighborhood was established in 1957 as “Cherryhill Farms”? Brown & Kauffmann advertised Cherryhill’s ranch-style houses as American Heritage Homes, because they felt that the timeless styling and fine craftsmanship were a proud American tradition. Check out the full brochure below (from the follow-on development called “Cherryhill West” to see if you can identify your house’s model.
